Lenovo S10 now shipping and early reviews trickle in
If you’ve pre-ordered the Lenovo S10 netbook, then you’ll be happy to hear that the company has begun shipping the S10 out. Several review sites have already received their S10’s and thus the early reviews are slowing trickling in. CNET’s published a “hands-on” look at the S10 here on Crave and had this to say:
… we liked the chunky, squared-off design (with speakers located on the front lip), and a decent-sized keyboard (for a netbook), which doesn’t need to knock out a row of function keys or mess around too much with the standard layout (we’re looking at you, Dell). We were also very pleased to see an ExpressCard/34 slot, which is rare on smaller systems, but very useful for adding after-market extras, such as a mobile broadband modem.
Meanwhile, the folks at LaptopMag rolled out a very extensive review of the S10 here on their website – giving the netbook 3.5 out of 5 stars. They had this to say:
Consumers who want the most compact and stylish 10-inch netbook on the market will look past these flaws and snap up the S10. But those who need long battery life should look elsewhere or hold out for an S10 with a six-cell battery.
If there was one thing I was most excited about with the S10, it was the possibility of having a Lenovo keyboard. While LaptopMag said the keyboard was more spacious than those found on 9 inch netbooks, it was a shame to read the following – “the keys gave modest feedback and were actually less springy than those on the Wind and the Eee PC 1000H. The small and unresponsive keys hurt our typing only slightly.”
I’m a huge fan of highly responsive tactile keys… oh well.. I’m sure the S10 will make it up in other ways once it comes in. My S10 is still sitting somewhere in South Carolina.. ugh.
