Netbooks – the “bright spot” to the PC industry
DisplaySearch has released a report indicating that the one “bright spot” in the PC industry is in fact the netbook market. According to the company, the category grew at more than 160% quarter over quarter during Q3 of this year. Here are some interesting tidbits from the report:
- Despite the fact that ASUS created the market in 2007, it has lost significant market share as Acer has “surged to the top spot, capturing more than 25% of this market.”
- All top 10 PC brands (except for Apple) have entered the mini-note PC market”
- In 2007, the market was less than one million units. By the end of 2008, the market should be more than 14 million units
- DisplaySearch expects the overall netbook market to stabilize to 16% share of the notebook PC market by 2011
