Best Buy offers Eee PC 1000HEB for $349.99. Just don’t confuse this for the 1000HE

ASUS Eee PC 1000HEB Just a lil word of warning. If you happen to have perused through this Sunday’s Best Buy circular, you would have noticed a sale for the ASUS Eee PC 1000HEB for a low price of $349.99. Do not confuse this for the popular Eee PC 1000HE folks. This is NOT the same machine. The 1000HEB comes with an Intel Atom N270 processor (not the N280 in the 1000HE) and a regular 6 cell battery for around 6+ hours of battery life – not the gi-normous 9+ hour battery life of the 1000HE. However, at $349.99, the 1000HEB still isn’t a bad deal.. it’s just not the same as the $380+ 1000HE that you can find over at Amazon.com.

The systems are expected to be manufactured by Quanta Computer and Compal Electronics and will likely be priced similar to current Windows XP based Acer netbooks.

Yeah. I don't think it's a bad deal either. The Eee PC 1000HEB is also viable and efficient for surveillance use, so I think it's just fairly priced.

The practices of BestBuy is in violation of the Fair Trade Practices Act that Congress put in place to prevent bait-and-switch practices that this sham-ful organization is engaging in. I shall boycott BestBuy as the WorstBuyer's caveat emptor. Anyone at ACLU willing to take on the case of BestBuy offering the Asus Eee Pc 1000HE and selling its own version with components taken out? There is no N280 processor, as advertised by AsusTek, and the bluetooth capability is conspicuously missing from the hardware profile. The 10 Gb storage that comes with the 1000HE is also nonexistent in the HEB(estBuy) version. This is truely a case of bait-and-switch, and there are enough unsuspecting victims that a class action suit could be brought in Federal Court, and an emergency injunction can be had upon proof that the practice is deceiving to the unsuspecting consumer. The evidence that people are being duped on a regular basis is everywhere on the internet. I researched the 1000HE before buying it. Come to find out, today (two-and-a-half months after purchase), i have no bluetooth. Upon further investigation of the bluetooth issue, I find that there are many other features missing that would cost far more to replace than the difference between the reduced cost of the HEB(estBuy) and the actual HE netbook. Boycott BestBuyerBeware.

    I'm Angry.
I bought the 1000 HEB at Best Buy and the salesman told me the "B" stood for the color being a Black model!
Now I have to return it to "Worst" Buy and buy again online. This is a deceptive trade practice and I intend to report Best Buy to the Attny. General in my state!

Don't worry I did the same thing, except they only had one and the box had been opened and all smudged up. I got it home and found the gimped battery life, lack of bluetooth, and no travel case. What is the use of a netbook that only gets a few hours of usage... I'd rather use my beefy laptop for that.

Best buy gimps their models. Actually I believe it is only a 4 cell battery as well.

KJ - sorry to hear about this. Yeah.. I nearly walked into BB to purchase that netbook thinking it was the 1000HE. Gotta read all the details. But you know.. a lot of this is also on ASUS for coming out with so many damn models. You'd think they could at least simplify things a little bit.

Just to add to the info about the HEB...
    - the unit is stamped as a 1000HE on the case, with a secondary sticker identifying it as the 1000HEB
    - there is no included travel sleeve
    - there is no bluetooth

The unit is basically the 1000HA, with wireless N
