LG netbooks at CTIA Wireless 2010
We dropped by the LG Electronics booth this week over at the CTIA Wireless 2010 show currently being held in Las Vegas, NV. LG had three of their latest X series netbooks on display – the X120, X200, and X300 – with the X200 being particularly new to us. Here’s what you need to know about all three netbooks.
LG X120:
The X120 is pretty old news of course as the netbook is based on the Atom N270 processor. Specs include Windows 7 Starter OS, a 10.1 inch LED backlit display, 1GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, and support for GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA mobile broadband. The netbook measures 10.39 x 7.02 x 0.98 inches and weighs 2.79 lbs.
LG X200:
The X200 is certainly a departure for LG when it comes to netbook styling. In many ways, it’s reminiscent of Lenovo’s Skylight smartbook coming out in the second quarter of this year. The X200 is a Pinetrail-based netbook with the following specs:
- Intel Atom N450 processor
- 10.1 inch 1366 x 768 resolution display
- 1GB of RAM
- 250GB HDD
- Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
- 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi
- Windows 7 Starter
- Support for GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HSPA
- Measures 10.62 x 7.28 x 1.00 ~ 1.22 inches
- Weighs 2.64 lbs
No word on availability or price at this time.
LG X300:
And finally, we got some up close and personal shots of the new X300 which is currently rolling out in Asia. Here’s what you need to know about the major specs:
- 2 GHz Intel Atom Z550 processor
- 1GB of RAM
- 64GB Solid State Drive

LG to enter U.S. netbook market this summer
Forbes is reporting that Korean manufacturer, LG Electronics, is gearing up to bring their netbook product lineup to the U.S. this summer. The company entered the netbook market late last year with the introduction of the X110 netbook. Since then, the netbook has made its way to most major markets around the world except for the U.S. In addition, LG introduced a follow-up model last month at the Mobile World Congress called the X120.
According to LG president and chief executive, Skott Ahn, the X110 will be coming to the U.S. before July at a price point of around $400 dollars.
What makes LG’s entrance into the U.S. netbook market particularly interesting is their existing strong presence in the mobile phone market. It’s not hard to imagine LG branded netbooks being offered at a subsidized price along with a new mobile broadband account from mobile carriers such as Verizon Wireless and AT&T. This could easily become a lucrative revenue stream for LG – alongside their strong mobile phone product line.

Times Online looks at six netbooks
UK news paper, Times Online, is out with a look at six different netbook systems – several of which are somewhat obscure models. Both the HP Mini 2140 and the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 received the highest marks – 4 out of 5. The worst was the Medion Akoya Mini E1210 which was given a 2 out of 5.
