Akihabara News has published a quick review of the NEC VersaPro VS-7 netbook here on their website. The VersaPro is one super thin netbook – measuring a mere 15.8mm hick and weighing only 725 grams. Other specs include the Intel Atom Z540 processor (clocked at 1.84 GHz), Intel GMA500 graphics, and the ability to withstand pressure up to 150 kg. Here’s an excerpt from the review:

“Ultra compact, ultra light and powerful, the VersaPro for the first time is a computer I love to carry around with me and does exactly what I need when I work on the go.”

Unfortunately the VersaPro VS-7 isn’t available here in the U.S. so you’ll need to head to Japan to pick one up.

The NEC Versa Pro J UltraLite Type VS – one thin netbook

Setting a new standard for ridiculously thin systems is the new NEC Versa Pro J UltraLite Type VS netbook (Say that name fast five times in a row!). Measuring a mere 15.8 mm thick and weighing around 725 grams, the NEC system features an Intel Atom Z540 processor clocked at 1.84 GHz, Intel GMA500, and a 64 GB Solid State Drive. Crazy huh?

On top of this, the lucky folks over at Akihabara News have one of these netbooks in house for testing right now. Not sure when the review will come out but darn it.. can NEC send one to us say.. now? :)

NEC LaVie Lite 2

Wow.. thanks to this picture gallery over at Engadget’s Chinese website (translated by Google Translate), I can say for sure now that the new NEC LaVie Light is indeed… UGLY. Yes I did allude to this when the LaVie Light was first announced but I figured I’d give the netbook a chance.. but man.. first impressions don’t lie! This netbook is something out of the 80’s if you ask me! Spec wise, there’s really nothing all that special about the LaVie Light. It has your usual specs including Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, Wi-Fi, USB ports, etc etc.. Unfortunately what really stands out for the NEC netbook is the looks.. or lack thereof.

NEC’s new LaVie Light netbook is no beauty to behold

LaVie Light 2

NEC is the latest company to join the netbook fray with the announcement of the LaVie Light and if there ever was a competition for the most boring looking netbook, it might actually be a contender in there. Wow.. the LaVie Light lacks style.. (doesn’t it remind you of something from the 80’s?)

Spec wise, it’s well.. your typical netbook configuration – an Intel N270 Atom processor running at 1.6GHz, 160GB HDD, an 8.9 inch display, 1GB of RAM, Wi-Fi b/g, three USB 2.0 ports, SD card slot, and a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera. According to Akihabara News, the LaVie Light measures 250 x 176.5 x 36.5 mm and weighs 1.17 kg.. No word on pricing but it should be in the same range as others..

but man.. does it have to be soo.. ug.. boring looking?
